Who benefits from Knowledge Transfer? – NCED’s approach to knowledge transfer places a priority on directing research towards the areas of knowledge most needed by industry partners, as well as providing a community outlet for the research products. The Knowledge Transfer (KT) Initiative goal is to direct this effort to ensure that NCED research remains informed by societal needs - to ensure the insights and tools developed by NCED have the greatest possible impact. Collaboration and dialogue between diverse disciplines, perspectives and institutions is a key concept of NCED's philosophy.
How does NCED approach KT? - Communication to a dynamic audience requires diverse approaches. NCED achieves Knowledge Transfer on several levels, from professional to public. NCED promotes the development of the next generation of scientists, across the globe, through special lecture series and programs like the Summer Institute on Earth-surface Dynamics and International Year of Deltas. Participation in international and domestic conferences and funded initiatives, as well as Industry partnerships provide the networks to create permanent partnerships from NCED initiatives.
On a local scale, NCED actively engages the public through local and social media, and public lectures and forums. Public perception and awareness of NCED's activities creates a legacy of interest and momentum for the next generation of scientists.
