PRRSUM FORUM WEBSTREAM INFORMATION

The PRRSUM Montly Forums will be streamed on the internet using an interactive webcast technology. This service is provided by the University of Minnesota and is called UMConnect. The technology allows outside participants to view, hear, and participate in the forums. Below we provide information on this service. Please contact PRRSUM organizers for more information on the webstream or if you have forgotten the webstream password.

What will I see? Will I be able to interact with the presenter in any way?
The best way to see what the UMConnect stream will be like is to view this example. You will be able to see a video stream of the presenter, see the presentation, and have audio from the presentation. Following the presentation, you will be able to participate in the group discussion periods by submitting short written questions/comments through the UMConnect interface. Comments will be incorporated into the discussion on a first-come, first-serve basis.  In-person attendees will be given priority to web attendees.

What technology will be used to stream the meeting?
UMConnect is a web conferencing application designed to facilitate real-time communication, collaboration, and teaching and learning over the web. At the University of Minnesota, access to UMConnect is provided by Academic and Distributed Computer Services.

What technologies do I need to connect to the stream?
The systems requirements to participate in the UMConnect are minimal. A description of the requirements and a test of your system can be found here.

Will I be required to register?
Yes, you need to join PRRSUM before participating in the webstream.  Click HERE to register.

Is there a fee for this service?
No, PRRSUM membership and the webstream are both free.

Will there be technical support provided should I have trouble connecting?
There will be technical support available to help establish and maintain your connection. For technical questions with your connection please contact umconnect@umn.edu.

When will the stream be up and running?
We will open up the webstream at 3:45 pm, 15 minutes prior to the introductory presentation, and will close it at 6:00 pm, 30 minutes after the discussion is scheduled to end. You may join in at any time. PRRSUM Forums are scheduled from 4-5:30 pm on the second Tuesday of every month.
