During 2007, NCED participated in a National Geographic Channel documentary entitled "Naked Science: Dino Meteor." NCED Director Chris Paola, NCED Postdoctoral Research Associate Doug Jerolmack, and Junior Scientist Craig Hill all participated in demonstrations that appeared in the documentary. NCED also received local attention in The Rake magazine: read about NCED and the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL), or tour SAFL with NCED Education Director Karen Campbell.
In addition to The Rake magazine, NCED appears in a booklet entitled Profiles in Team Science. This booklet includes an overview of all of the National Science Foundation's science and technology centers. To view a pdf of the booklet, click here.
Other media highlights for 2007:
A documentary film crew that visited St. Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL) in June shot footage of a model study located in the basement of the lab: NCED created a model of the Marmot Dam with colleagues from the US Forest Service (USFS), Oregon State University, and dam owners PGE to help predict and document this exciting event. NCED Visualization Specialist Paul Morin coauthored a new geology textbook: Exploring Geology.
NCED Principal Investigator Bill Dietrich participated in a PBS special, “Landslide Detectives,” that focused on the hazards of landslides in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press interviewed NCED Education Director Karen Campbell as part of a story on the 35W bridge collapse.
The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) opened its water exhibition, Water: H20=Life, in November. AMNH and the Science Museum of Minnesota (SMM) co-organized this exhibition with SMM receiving content development support from NCED during the exhibition's creation. |
